Someone I would love to work with...

One person I would absolutely love to work with would be Suzanne Elliott.

A picture of Suzanne Elliott.

She is the owner of body piercing shop, Modify. She is not only a wonderful body piercer. She is an amazing business woman too. (And i also adore her hair colour!) Suzanne has been a body piercer for over 6 years and she still enjoys doing it.

Modify was opened to the public in 2009 and is growing so fast. The store is the only locally owned piercing shop in South Australia. I would love to work with Suzanne because the business is locally owned and she is a really good piercer!

Suzanne is a very qualified piercer as she is trained in first aid, CPR and Blood borne Pathogens. She also has taken classes at the Association of Professional Piercing’s regarding; Anatomey: The structure of an Aesthetic Piercing, Client Home Care, Business Management, Exploring the O'Needle, Initial Jewellery; Size and Style, Surface anchors, Trouble shooting (piercing related), Stretching and a workshop in Sterilization and piercing room set-up.

Even though Suzanne will not pierce any one under the age of 18 with dermal anchors but I would LOVE to have her pierce some dermal anchors on me.. I would go and get pierced by her but i don't have a piercing that i legally can get done :(

I would suggest going into the shop for a look around because they are one of a kind and have a massive range of cool jewelry only found in her shop.

Their address is: 34B King William Street.
Or ring them on: (08) 8231 7818.

BOOK AN APPOINTMENT to be pierced or i will hunt you down with a water gun and squirt you with horrible smelling perfume! >:D Ehehehe

Ear Piercing

I just wanted to write about ear piercings because a few friends are scared to get their ears pierced. :)
Lobe piercings should only be pierced with a gun. If the piercer goes to pierce you on the lobe with a needle.. RUN! They shouldn't be!

I have recently made up an after care sheet to help understand what needs to be done after getting your ears pierced. Below is my version :D

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
After Care Information for Pierced Ears

You have just had your ear(s) pierced with surgical steel studs. For maximum results follow these instructions carefully for 8-10 weeks, or until entirely healed.

The best healing solution for any wound is natural non iodized sea salt or rock salt. You can get this salt from supermarkets or health food stores. Please do NOT use table salt since it is too harsh for healing and will irritate the area.

Sea Salt soaks
1/4 - 1 teaspoon of Non Iodized Sea Salt / Rock Salt
250ml Boiling water

1. Wash hands
2. Mix Salt and boiling water together
3. Wait till mixture is warm and soak a new cotton ball or fresh strip of low lint paper towel
4. Soak your piercing twice a day for five minutes
- Every time the cotton ball gets cold, get a fresh one.

A substitute for the sea salt is Palmolive softwash, make sure it is the anti bacterial hand wash. This is a gentle anti bacterial wash that you can use in the shower.

1. Wash hands / rinse
2. Lather gel in your hands
3. gently wash the piercing site
4. rinse
- Do this twice a day in the shower.

It is very important to leave your piercing alone. Playing with and touching a fresh piercing can lead to irritation and infection. Piercings have varied healing times so your piercing may look healed in one – two weeks, but they are usually far from healed.

Lymph [crusties] is a normal part of healing so please do not pick at it. To remove any lymph or dry blood that may have formed around the area you can either do a sea salt soak.

Please avoid pools, spas and still bodies of water [e.g. Lakes] for as long as possible during the healing period. If you must go swimming, use a good quality water proof patch to cover your fresh piercing and clean if afterwards. These places contain a large amount of bacteria and chemicals and can cause serious problems to a fresh piercing.
Going to the beach is also fine.

Things to avoid
Putting substances such as alcohol and Listerine on any Piercings, fresh or healed
Using these products can dry out the skin, irritate the piercing and it will drastically lengthen healing times.
Changing jewellery before recommended healing times.
Over cleaning.

Here are 2 pictures of different ear piercings, pierced with a gun.

My Business.

Poked, Pierced and Prodded. The name of my business.
The business would be a piercing parlour in the Northern suburbs of Adelaide.

The shop would sell clothing, shoes, belt buckles, belts, jewellery and posters. Along with the option of waxing and piercings too.

The employee's I would prefer to employ would be Kasey Hilder aka Zephyr Elf for all of the fashion and jewellery section. Sam McNicholls for the waxing section. Elena Halkias for the piercing and also waxing side too. And my self for the piercings as well.

The business would have member discount cards and with every purchase get it stamped and the 5th and 10th purchase is free. And also cheap Tuesday's. Also known as 'Tight Arse Tuesdays'. (From Punktured Body Piercings in Adelaide).

I would like the set-up of the piercing rooms to be a little like the business Out Of Step in Seacombe Gardens. They have their set-up ( Sterilised Tools and Jewellery) in their actual piercing room. Unlike other places that have them in a different room. It would make it a lot easier and less time consuming for both the piercer and the client.

The piercing room at Out Of Step in Seacombe Gardens.

The range of piercings that would be available, would be a little different to all other parlours. Most parlour's have a small range of "normal" piercings. My business would do out of the ordinary piercings and modifications.

Some that would be available would be Scarification(1), Tongue Bifurcation(2), Extraocular Implant(3), Dermal Anchors(4) and Earlobe Stretching(5). Along with the less 'hardcore' piercings.

(1) Scarification is the art of scratching, etching or superficially cutting designs, pictures or words into the skin as a permanent body modification.

(2) Tongue Bifurcation is the art in which the tongue is cut centrally from its tip to as far back as the underside base, forking the end.

(3) Extraocular implant is the art of a cosmetic implant involving a tiny piece of decorative jewellery is implanted within the superficial, conjunctiva of the human eye.

(4) Dermal Anchor is the art at which an anchor is implanted underneath the skin and an interchangeable jewellery top, is screwed into the threaded hole in the step of the anchor.

(5) Earlobe stretching is the art of deliberate expansion of healed tissue for the purpose of wearing jewellery.

1. Scarification.                                            2. Tongue Bifurcation.

3. Extraocular Implant.                              4. Dermal Anchors.                      5. Earlobe Stretching.

Career Possibilities

The business that i have chosen is Essential Beauty.

Along with this information, I can say that Essential Beauty takes care of all their customers because I have had all 13 of my piercings done by an Essential Beauty piercer. The staff take great care in assuring that the procedure is performed in a sterile environment. I have done this as my career choice because I am a fanatic for piercings. I can't get enough of them. In a few weeks my total should go up to 15+ piercings. I have the same enthusiasm for tattoo's as I do for piercings. Tattooing is another career that I may pursue.

Here is some information from the company's website:

How Much Does It Cost?
Ear Piercing prices start from...............$15.95
Body Piercing prices start from.............$20

What Metals Are Safe For Piercing Jewellery?
316L surgical implant grade stainless steel, solid gold 9ct and 18ct, niobium or titanium work well for the vast majority of people. Metals to avoid include silver, gold plated or gold filled, brass, bronze and copper. The initial "savings" on a cheaper ring is quickly forgotten when infections and reactions to poorly made jewellery necessitate medical expenses.

Why Choose A Professional Piercer Over A Doctor?
Although Doctors are trained in the body and cross contamination procedures, they have NO understanding of the jewellery size and gauge. Placement of the piercing and jewellery size and gauge is a vital necessity in piercing success.

Body Piercing And Modification

WARNING!! THE PICTURES AT THE END ARE QUITE GRAPHIC!!

Body Art.

My career choice is a body piercer/modifier. Here is some information about this particular career.

Body piercing, a form of body modification, is the practice of puncturing or cutting a part of the human body, creating an opening in which jewellery may be worn. The word piercing can refer to the act or practice of body piercing, or to an opening in the body created by this act or practice. While the history of body piercing is obscured by a lack of scholarly reference and popular misinformation, ample evidence exists to document that it has been practiced in various forms by both sexes since ancient times throughout the world.

A 2005 survey of 10,503 people in England over the age of 16 found that approximately 10% (1,049) had body piercings in sites other than the earlobe, with a heavy representation of women aged 16–24 (46.2% piercing in that demographic). Among the most common body sites, the navel was top at 33%, with the nose and ear (other than lobe) following at 19% and 13%. The tongue and nipple tied at 9%. The eyebrow, lip and genitals were 8%, 4% and 2%, respectively. Preference among women followed closely on that ranking, though eyebrow piercings were more common than nipple piercings. Among male responders, the order was significantly different, descending in popularity from nipple, eyebrow, ear, tongue, nose, lip and genitals. A cross-cultural study published in 2011 found that individuals with piercings were likely to be involved in other forms of countercultural expression as well.

Body piercing is an invasive procedure with risks. In a 2005 survey of 10,503 persons over the age of 16 in England, complications were reported in 31% of piercings, with professional help being necessary in 15.2%. 0.9% had complications serious enough to require hospitalization.
